The treaty provides new opportunities for harmonising and coordinating both Council and Commission external relations policies, as well as linking development, human rights and defence and security initiatives.
Among those taking part in the conference were:
Edward Luck, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General
Karel Kovanda, Deputy Director-General at the European Commission’s External Relations Directorate General
Erika Feller, Assistant High Commissioner responsible for protection at the office of the UN’s High Commissioner for Refugees.
Specific attention will be given to the EU’s response to crises in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and Georgia.
