‘China dialogues’ launch underway with engaged participation on harmonious society

Wilton Park Chief Executive, Richard Burge, leads these strategic programmes, which examine the ways of working with China as a key player across global, political, economic and commercial arenas. The launch meeting examined the Chinese concept of ‘harmonious society’ 和谐社会 in the context of a booming economic shift, and dramatic social and political changes.
Programme Director Adela Gooch took a strong lead on the discussions as the Conference Chairperson. They were joined by Stephen King, Chief Economist at HSBC and Christine Shields, Head of Country Risk Research at Standard Bank.
The Participants also heard a presentation from Philip Blond, Director of ResPublica think tank on the UK debate related to the “big society” – exploring synergies with Chinese options to solve social and economic concerns.
