Participants from across the EU discussed how the EU’s economy might be governed in light of the credit crunch and sovereign debt crises. With the Stability and Growth Pact widely disregarded, Eurozone economic governance is changing but further strengthening is needed. The ‘Europe 2020’ programme could be timely as the economic crisis presents an opportunity to push through deep structural reforms which were avoided, if not resisted, during the previous decade of economic growth.
