Building bridges: TEDxWhitehallWomen and the Marsh Award

Kirsty Cockburn, Director of Policy and External Affairs, writes: On a crisp sunlit Friday morning earlier this month, we gathered at Tower Bridge for TEDxWhitehallWomen ‘on board’ the stone frigate HMS President. Under the theme of ‘Bridges’ we were buoyed with anticipation for the day ahead. Meanwhile, just down the river, Westminster had woken up with a shudder. The rolling news highlighted suspensions and accusations about inappropriate behaviour largely directed towards women. The issue, from Hollywood to Cricklewood, deemed endemic, and finally, it seemed, an ugly truth about inequality was being exposed. At TEDx the ebullient host Shola Mos-Shogbamimu captured the mood from the off, getting us on our feet and of one voice:  “What do we want? Change! When do we want it? Now!”
