Wilton Park is convening a series of high-level roundtables, under Wilton Park Protocol, to identify how a range of stakeholders can collectively play a constructive role with regional institutions in moments of political crisis or transition of political systems, in support of resilient democratisation processes, strengthening accountable and effective institutions, and socio-economic progress.
This is the second exchange in this adaptive series. This roundtable will examine how state-citizen engagement and ongoing dialogue underpin resilient democratisation and peaceful and prosperous societies. The exchange will identify how different stakeholders working with and through regional actors such as ECOWAS can collectively engage in support of strengthened social contracts, in particular in times of political transition or crisis.
Informed by a range of stakeholders and experts from West Africa and beyond, it will map out key actors and roles to foster long-term engagement and cooperation. Recommendations will be built on past experience and lessons, while acknowledging the changed and changing context, both globally and in West Africa.
