The Prime Minister has written to participants attending Wilton Park’s dialogue on Mid-market companies: resilience and growth, recognising the vital contribution that mid-market businesses make to the UK economy and thanking attendees for sharing their expertise and experience.

In his message, the Prime Minister highlighted the central role that mid-market companies play in driving growth across the country, describing them as some of the UK’s most productive, innovative and internationally ambitious businesses. He noted their importance in creating high-quality jobs, investing in local communities and helping deliver prosperity throughout the UK.

The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating the conditions for businesses to grow, including support for skills and apprenticeships, improved access to finance through the British Business Bank, the adoption of new technologies, and helping more firms reach international markets. He emphasised the importance of providing a stable environment that gives companies the confidence to invest for the long term.

Recognising the value of dialogue between business and government, the Prime Minister said that bringing together business leaders, policymakers and partners to share ideas, challenge assumptions and explore practical solutions is essential to supporting future growth and resilience. He noted that insights from the Wilton Park discussion would help inform ongoing government work to better understand the opportunities and barriers facing mid-market companies.

The Wilton Park dialogue convened in partnership with the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, NatWest and Intuit, brought together leaders from high-growth UK businesses alongside policymakers to examine how the UK’s mid-market sector can be supported to grow, invest and build resilience in an increasingly complex economic environment. Discussions focused on finance, skills, technology adoption, supply chains and international growth.

This dialogue is part of the wider efforts of Wilton Park to connect business and government stakeholders in support of UK growth and resilience.
