Yet progress has never relied solely on formal development channels. Many countries have advanced through domestic reform, regional cooperation, innovation, and social movements. The drivers of prosperity are increasingly diverse, and the actors shaping them extend far beyond traditional institutions.
As the global system fragments, it is essential to protect and strengthen the areas where international cooperation remains vital—such as health, humanitarian response, climate action, and global finance—while also embracing the opportunities emerging in new spaces. Alongside established players, a wider ecosystem of tech innovators, cities, philanthropies, youth networks, and private investors is advancing shared goals of equity and resilience.
This moment calls for a new kind of development approach: one rooted in mutual interest, shared responsibility, and plural leadership.
This dialogue will:
- Bring together diverse perspectives on how to achieve development outcomes in a disrupted world with a new approach to partnership, expertise, local leadership, and development architecture reform — as well as more innovative forms of finance.
- Explore the common threads between existing reform initiatives, including those driven by governments, multilaterals, civil society and philanthropies.
- Lay the ground for new forms of partnerships to support innovative, inclusive and viable solutions, including opportunities to create new coalitions through a future UK-hosted International Development Conference.
