Despite compelling evidence that participation in sport improves confidence, mobility, leadership capacity, educational outcomes, employability and wellbeing, women and girls still face systemic barriers that limit their ability to engage fully and safely in sporting environments. These challenges can be intensified for those from marginalised groups, including women and girls with disabilities, who encounter additional obstacles to access, visibility, and opportunity.
This dialogue, in partnership with Qatar Foundation, will explore how enabling access to sport for women and girls across the Global South can strengthen social and economic development.
The dialogue will bring together policymakers, leading figures from the realm of sports, civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations and development experts to identify practical strategies to expand access, address social and structural barriers and create enabling environments for participation and leadership. By doing so, the event will explore how inclusive sport contributes to wider development outcomes – from improved learning and health to strengthened human capital and community cohesion.
The dialogue aims to catalyse collaboration, generate practical insights and shape the global policy agenda on inclusive sport for development.
