Initiatives aimed at supporting individuals’ ability to earn a livelihood have been an important part of international donors’ development programming in North Africa, the Horn of Africa and Central Sahel for a long time. These programmes aim to strengthen local economies and support people who have lost or are at risk of losing their livelihood in a range of vulnerability contexts, as well as a means to tackle irregular migration.
This Wilton Park event will provide an opportunity for regional experts and donor partners to share insights on what works, and evidence on the relationship between livelihood interventions and irregular migration patterns within the region and outwards. The participants will explore ideas on how livelihood programming could be strengthened and made more responsive to different contexts.
