As highlighted in the summary, the participants co-created a vision and mission for their collective action on locally led adaptation.
VISION: Locally led approaches to climate action will be a core component of building inclusive, integrated adaptation and resilience to the impacts of climate change.
MISSION: We will champion resilient systems that are driven by local aspirations and priorities, inclusive of indigenous peoples[1], that reinforce good practices and support national policies. We commit to promote, scale, and accelerate the efforts.
Action boards
In step 5, participants reviewed all of the priority actions identified through steps 1-3 under each thematic area. Each stakeholder group indicated the actions they thought their stakeholder group would be best placed to take forward. The table in the annex shows the level of detail and engagement from each stakeholder group.
This table helped to identify which actions received the most interest, which actions can be led by which stakeholder group, and where meeting participants can reach out to other participants and stakeholders for collaboration and support to drive particular actions.
The most popular actions that participants volunteered to take forward are:
- Finance – Identify and/or develop models for implementing LLA approaches at scale, building on what works at different scales.
- Institutions – Build on existing systems and processes to strengthen institutions that integrate and support LLA approaches.
- Communication – Create an advocacy strategy and toolkit to make a coordinated case for LLA.
- Evidence – Support storytelling by local communities on LLA successes and build links between LLA champions and existing evidence.
- Evidence – Highlight what is working, identify missing sectors and geographies, and find additional champions.
Join the action: all interested readers and stakeholders are invited to collaborate and join the LLA community for mutual support and the driving forward of actions identified in the table below.
[1] There was a constructive discussion around whether the mission statement should refer to ‘Indigenous peoples’. While all participants agreed on the importance of inclusion of indigenous people, the specific terminology proved contentious, and further dialogue will be needed to reach consensus.
