This dialogue will convene an invitation-only group of policy makers from key NPT governments with non-government experts for a two-day conference to assess different aspects of irreversibility and consider how to take the work forward. This dialogue will:

  • Further develop a shared understanding of what irreversibility in nuclear disarmament (IND) will require.
  • Discuss the technical, legal and political parameters and criteria for irreversibility, both during a process of disarmament, and after disarmament has been achieved.
  • Review the work conducted in diplomatic and academic fields since the previous Wilton Park conference in 2022, assess its implications, and explore avenues for taking IND work forward.
  • Develop a programme of work that will include next steps and fora for collaboration, with a framing vision of a submission to the 2026 NPT Review Conference.
