A number of delegates raised the need to move beyond infectious disease in raising awareness of the impact of AMR for example for cancer patients and the HIV community. It is also strategic to leverage the upcoming High Level Meeting on NCDs, with the aim of including mention of AMR in the UN High Level Declaration on NCDs to unlock resources across infectious disease groups.
Action: A number of delegates have established a Cancer and AMR Consortium. The Consortium is a collaboration among the AMR Action Fund, Becton Dickinson, and the Union for International Cancer Control that seeks to shed light on the danger that drug-resistant infections pose to cancer patients, and to raise awareness more broadly of the risk of AMR to all patients, especially those who are immunocompromised- to accelerate advocacy, policy, and innovation.
